11 THINGS YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE CALLING AN INSULATION CONTRACTOR!

  1. Cellulose insulation is superior to fiberglass:

·         Cellulose is non-carcinogenic (notice the OSHA warning on fiberglass).

·         Cellulose is biodegradable & saves landfill space.

·         Less energy required in manufacturing cellulose.  Fiberglass increased 7-8% in April, 2004 because of manufacturing cost increases. More pollutants are produced during the manufacture of fiberglass than is produced during the manufacture of cellulose. This is important.

·         Higher R-Value per inch than fiberglass.

·         Slower “burn-time” in structure fires, providing precious additional minutes for escape.

  1. If you are about to remodel – insulate first!

·         Cellulose insulation has the fastest payback period of all home improvement projects.

  1. Not all contractors are created equal.

·         The vast majority of insulation contractors in the metro-Atlanta region have designed their businesses around the booming new-construction market.  Retrofit installation of insulation and custom, innovative applications are unique to Bird-Family Insulation.

·         Some contractors will simply measure your house, blow the insulation – and cover-up or ignore problems and issues in your attic.

·         With Bird-Family Insulation you can choose Standard or Premium installation options, depending upon your project goals.

  1. Our expertise and quality products will significantly reduce your utility bills. FAST payback periods for YOU are what we strive for!

·         Cocoon cellulose insulation added to your under-insulated attic and walls; combined with our “Draft-Free” service always provides the homeowner with lower heating and cooling bills.

·         Sometimes, just adding 3” of cellulose on TOP of fiberglass batts in your attic is all that is needed. (See report from the Oak Ridge National Laboratories at: BetterInsulation.com

  1. You may be able to fire your exterminator!

·         Boric Acid, added to Cocoon cellulose to provide it’s superior Class 1 Fire Rating – also repels insects like termites and roaches, as well as repelling small rodents such as mice, rats, and squirrels.

  1. Our Drill-and-Fill Wall Service insulates and sound-deadens your walls affordably.

·         In wood-frame constructed homes/offices, the walls have no insulation at all due to outdated code requirements. We provide a solution for structures that no longer meet code requirements.  Our service is low-impact and does not disturb landscapes.  1” holes (near ground level) are drilled every 16” in exterior walls and voids pumped with insulation.  Holes are plugged and repainted to match finish. Soundproofing and lower heating and cooling bills are the result.

·         About to paint or install vinyl siding?  Call us first to super-insulate your walls at our “You-Finish” rate; it is far superior (4x more R-Value!) to the tiny R rating of so-called “insulated siding” and more affordable.

·         Sound deadening quality of cellulose is 2 to 3 times greater than similar fiberglass products.  90% of all sound is suppressed in cellulose-insulated walls!

  1. Your home can be Draft-Free for about 10 cents-per-square-foot of living area!

·         Every wall receptacle and switch plate cover sealed with gaskets.

·         Every plumbing access under lavatories and behind commodes, etc sealed with foam or caulk.

·         Every window and door inspected and caulked where necessary.

  1. Verify that your insulation contractor belongs to a trade association with high standards.

·         Insulation contracting is an unregulated industry.  There is no license (similar to electrician or plumber).  Your contractor will be climbing throughout the attic or drilling holes in your walls… do not take chances with someone who refuses to be accountable in an unregulated industry.

·         Bird-Family Insulation belongs to the Association For Better Insulation.  Learn more at BetterInsulation.com.

·         Each installation is personally supervised by Bob, who generally is the installer at the “business-end” of the hose – in your attic, under your crawlspace, or drilling and filling walls.
