8 WORDS I HAVE NEVER HEARD:

I Wish I Hadn’t Purchased That Additional

INSULATION!

It is a known fact that over 50% of today’s homes across America are under-insulated.  Here in Georgia, the statistic is higher.  In years gone by, energy was cheap and insulation materials and costs high (relatively speaking).  Homes built as recently as the 80’s have only 3” of attic insulation!

Currently, (2004) the generally accepted code requirement for attic insulation is only R-30 (8”) of insulation for new homes.  However, this code requirement needs to be 60% HIGHER to comply with U.S. Dept of Energy recommendations for Georgia!  The U.S. Dept of Energy STANDARD for attic insulation is R-49 in our state.  Sadly, only the private, custom homes of builders and the informed install 12-15 inches of attic insulation.

The builders who use BIRD-Family Insulation as the insulation contractors for their new home construction offer the DOE levels as upgrade options for the home-buyer to chose from.  Without exception, the wise shoppers choose the upgrades.  They easily understand the cost differential between affordable insulation and expensive HVAC equipment.

The insulation is an affordable one-time cost with a lifetime payback reward:

·        Lowered utility costs.

·        Quieter home.

·        Higher resale value.

·        Extended life of HVAC equipment.

Ignore an insulation upgrade in your new or existing home and you lose money at every point.  Utility costs continue to rise; neighborhoods are noisier and homes are being built closer together; house inspectors penalize the home seller who hasn’t modernized vital comfort systems; and HVAC costs associated with replacement, service and repairs are incredibly high!

Those reasons alone, not to mention the additional resistance your home will have to insects, rodents, mold, mildew, and fire are why I have never heard a single person… not one… ever say, “I wish I hadn’t purchased that Additional Insulation!”
