Is your Air Conditioner Falling Short of Cooling your Upstairs, or Favorite Rooms?

Is your Bonus Room (or any room) too Warm?

Does Your Air Conditioner Run & Run… Just to Keep Up?

Are You Dreading another HOT Atlanta Summer, because Your Air Conditioner Runs Your Power Bill Up & Up?

HERE IS YOUR SOLUTION:

1.  Call our Office, 404-538-9168 to schedule BPI certified Bob Bird for a professional evaluation of your home. Do not worry, Bob is NOT a salesman. He is coming to your home to perform 4 functions:

  • Evaluate your home,

  • Discover the cause(s) of your discomfort,

  • Educate you on the what, where, why, how,

  • and Recommend a COMMON SENSE, affordable Solution.

2.  A typical workscope includes:

  • Air Barrier …Tightening the Envelope.  We airseal penetrations (the small and large holes) in your accessible ceilings, floors, and walls, (the perimeter surfaces of your house). We do this using expanding foam and caulk products.

WHY? To dramatically slow the uncontrolled air movement into and out of your home. It is not uncommon for a home to exchange 60% and more of the interior conditioned air every HOUR with the unconditioned, unhealthy air from outside, under your floors, and from your attic!

  • Thermal Barrier … Insulation.  Now that your house is tighter, it is ready for insulation. Here is the order of priority (and benefits!):

          1. Ceiling and kneewall insulation.

          2. Floor insulation.

          3. Wall insulation.

  • Tighten your HVAC Ducts… Duct Sealing & Wrapping. According to the Department of Energy, the average American home is loosing 30% of conditioned air through leaks and holes in the duct system.  Older systems (pre 1990) often have un-insulated ducts!

Imagine our clients emotions when Bob shows them pictures of obvious duct leakage, easily costing them 30% of their total airflow. Air ducts are hidden. Many homeowners have no idea…

VARIATIONS APPLY!

Remember… BIRD Family Insulation is commited to solutions. We are not “product-driven”. Your home is evaluated with a “Whole-House Approach” to discover WHY you are having this comfort issue, and a PLAN outlined to get you comfortable!

Some reasons dictate that we modify the above approach.

1.     Because you tell me to!

2.     I am addressing a single issue: for instance, an uncomfortable bonus room.

3.     A single problem may be so bad, resolving it trumps the protocol.

4.     House design. For instance, the baby’s room has a south facing wall that always warms his room, and he wakes from his naps wet from sweat. We would Drill-and-Fill that wall with insulation, improve the AC airflow, and maybe tint the windows to resolve that specific comfort problem!

5.     Duct Design. In most homes, we can vastly improve the performance of your current Air Conditioning with a sensible, performance-oriented approach. Here are the problems:

               A. Duct systems are installed by the builder’s subcontractor. The subcontractor uses the least-skilled laborer to install your ducts.

               B. He twists them around, leaves huge lengths of wasteful slack, and tightly bends them around supports.

               C. Because your ducts were installed before the sheetrock, the installer straps (suspends) them up in the high elevations of your attic. Guess where the hottest temperatures in your house are… day after day?  I document on a regular basis, attic temperatures of 140 degrees!! It’s hard to get cold air from warm ducts.

               D. I always see the web strapping cutting into the flexible duct, squeezing the duct into an “hour-glass”. Guess how little airflow is getting through U-Turns, and a dozen restrictions in your ducts?

               E. Poor Design. Wrongly sized ducts. Not enough airflow to large, popular rooms. Not enough Return Airflow. Inefficient duct design is all too common.

               F. In crawlspaces, I find ducts lying on the damp ground, soaked with water, and corrupted/soiled from rodents chewing through the insulation. My pictures are eye-openers!

Your EVALUATION will take Bob an hour to perform. Some take longer. It takes him an hour+ to type your evaluation report and proposal. Because of the time commitment, he can only perform 3 appointments per day, 3 days per week.

Call Now, or use the CONTACT BUTTON to get on Bob’s schedule! It’s your home, shouldn’t you be comfortable?

Look at the experiences these recent BIRD Family Insulation clients had!

Bird Family Insulation stripped, sealed, and wrapped multiple AC/Heating ducts, (lots and lots of ducts in this attic!).  We insulated this attic with Open Cell Spray Foam, and completely sealed this crawlspace with 12-mil vapor barrier.  We dugout and water-proofed the foundation walls, and insulated the foundation walls with spray foam. Finally, we installed a humidifier and wireless hygrometer so our client could monitor humidity levels under the house. We completed their Home Energy Makeover with a surface water management project, cleaning out gutters and extending downspouts.

This Townhouse Attic was insulated to yield R-49 throughout.  We also completely airsealed the ceilings.  The backdoor received new weatherstrip and sweep, while the duct sealing was improved.

This is an older home around the TED stadium.  Cellulose attic insulation was installed to yield R-49 throughout. We installed a new attic pull-down stair unit with our insulated, air-tight COZY.  We had to repair a dangerous flue pipe and make adjustments for proper draft of CO.

We “drilled and filled” his exterior walls with high performance Applegate cellulose insulation.  The HVAC ducts were sealed & insulated, and the subfloors of the main living area and addition were insulated with spray foam insulation. This was a total Home Energy Makeover that took our crew 3 days to complete, and reward our client with an ENERGY STAR!

This large, beautiful Atlanta home had a custom project that included insulating the attic to yield R-49 throughout. Our crew performed airsealing in the attic and living spaces. A large HVAC duct system(s) was sealed & insulated. As with all of our ENERGY STAR clients, this project was Tested/Out with a blower door, and ducts pressure tested with a Flow Hood before we submit our invoice to the client.  No Guessing!  Only Solutions to your Comfort Problems!

This is phase one of a larger project.  We were asked to elevate the storage decks in this attic, before adding our Applegate cellulose insulation to perform at R-49.  All of our attics receiving airsealing measures as “prep-work”, and our crew also performed airsealing measures throughout the main living area.

Kneewalls were sealed and sheathed with rigid foam board as required by ENERGY STAR program guidelines. This home had cantilevered floors, so we had to “drill and fill” the soffit under each bay, densepacking cellulose insulation into these voids. Numerous interior light bulbs in the home were replaced with ENERGY STAR CFL bulbs.

Every Bird Family Insulation client receives a personal follow-up, that includes an electronic customer survey (report card!) where they grade the experience they had with Bird Family Insulation.  Below is an exert from Paul’s survey.   Notice that his “Drill and Fill” wall insulation was performed from the interior of the home.  We can insulate walls either way; from the inside or from the outside.

“Friendly attitude, strong focus on keeping things clean (rained during the install, but no mud in house), quality work, crew leader responded well when I pointed out things that needed another look-over, Beau did a sweet job on cutting/patching the holes on the one room we had wallpaper on, after the wall insulation was installed – we didn’t need to paint or re-paper.  Abbey is great – having the same knowledgeable and caring voice on the other end of the phone every time I called was nice, and the house feels much better now!”

Amanda’s historic home had been remodeled many times by several prior occupants. Upon my inspection of her attic, I found that perhaps 40% of the sheetrock ceilings were not the attic floor. The ceilings had been “dropped” to a 9′ height, while the original lathe and plaster ceilings were at 11′ heights! We had to cut access points in each plaster ceiling, and drop a man into the voids between the two ceilings, in order to get blow the cellulose insulation throughout; yielding a comprehensive coverage.  Amanda had received 2 earlier “quotes” from insulation companies… and neither salesmen had mentioned this. They would have blown their insulation on top of the lathe and plaster ceilings, leaving the actual ceilings (thermal barrier) void of any thermal protection! Of course Bird Family Insulation was somewhat more expensive, but not in the long run.  The other guys were stealing her money.  When she saw my digital photos, she knew the truth.  I set her up on payments, and they have a wonderful home that’s  fun to live in, any day of the year!  Here is her version of the story:

“I have recommended BIRD-Family Insulation to all my friends! Our experience was first rate. We had other estimates done and while BFI was not the lowest in price, we were willing to pay a little more to have absolutely no question in our minds about the quality of the work we were receiving. The job was done quickly, and the crew made it easy for us to be in our home while they were working. Every contact we have had has been knowledgeable and professional. I enjoyed meeting you all – what a great experience! Everyone and everything was done in the most professional and courteous manner. The insulation has made a noticeable difference in the comfort of our newly purchased, 100+ year-old, country home. Thank you, Bob, and all your crew!”
