A Client’s Story

In June, 2009 we escorted through the Ga Power HPwES program a client whose home involved replacing her old Heat Pump Energy Hog with a new unit. The two story home did not have any return vents in the first floor, so we added 3 returns downstairs. Additional improvements included:

Replaced her old water heater with an EnergySmart water heater.
Completely re-insulated her complex attic and kneewalls according to strict program guidelines.
Sealed the floor system (between the first and second floors). The joist runs were wide open, allowing uncontrolled summer’s super-hot attic temps and winter’s freezing drafts (behind those kneewalls) free to trespass and languish in the floor system between the two levels of living space. It was like the 2^nd floor of her home was a treehouse.
Re-built the 4 scuttle doors in her kneewalls, insulating them and installing doorstop, weatherstrip kits, and mechanical latches.

Her final inspection and TEST OUT was a breeze. She had called us because her upstairs was unbearably hot in the summer, and the downstairs was too cold in the winter. Her beautiful home is now dramatically, measurably more comfortable to enjoy year-around. In fact, I’m expecting a Christmas card from her!
