I do not sell insulation. I am not a salesman. When I drive up at your home, I am not sizing up a prospective sale.

I do not sell insulation by the square foot. I sell solutions… solutions to your home performance problems.

My competitors are salesmen who sell insulation by the foot. Your attic is only a formula to those estimators. They will measure the length and width of your house and multiply those two numbers together for your square footage of attic space. That tells them how much to charge you. Some estimators will actually have a ladder to gain access to your scuttle door. Some won’t even look into your attic. Many will ask to borrow your flashlight. I know of NONE (except us and one other company) that will actually climb throughout the attic inspecting your home.

I am not an estimator/salesman. I am an educated, trained Home Energy Auditor.

The “lowest bid” folks are purely guessing. Their sales model is selling x-amount of pounds insulation per week. Salesmen are on quotas.

  • How long you have lived in the home,
  • When the home was built,
  • Home comfort levels changing with the seasons,
  • Heating and air conditioning issues,
  • Hot or cold areas in your home…
  • In short: “Are they actually trying to solve your energy and comfort problems?”

Fifteen minutes is not a long time.

It’s about how long I take in my initial interview with each homeowner regarding comfort and energy issues in their home. In 15 minutes my peers have already written your estimate! Notice this principle: “A student rarely exceeds the teacher”. If the estimator doesn’t care to get it right – the installers probably won’t either. It’s your gamble.

Gone In Sixty Seconds is a good movie (I liked the first one best). One hour is about my average visit doing a $30 home energy assessment. Exceptions take longer.
