Our Atlanta home was built in 1976, using single pane, double hung windows. These windows were the predominate style in our region. In fact, the Forest Park home I grew up in (built by my parents in 1958) had these windows too. My hands still hurt when I remember banging on those things to get them to open! And that screeching sound! Fully 75% of the windows in our current home would not open.
Wind and dust infiltration was constant. And my once rural road, with Atlanta’s growth was now noisy beyond belief. No matter, I installed storm windows. And in 1999 I installed exterior window tint (a.k.a. “Limo Tint”). Tinting helped with the direct sunlight. Our interior comfort improved nicely, and our energy bill responded too.
Pete, our “super-handy-man” supervisor had been telling me for 3 years we can replace those ugly windows. So we finally did.
Pete led a 3-man crew on an all-day assignment, removing our old units, and installing our new PELLA Thermastar Windows. They slipped right in, and my entire family is speechless about the results:
- The windows are absolutely gorgeous. So clear to peer through. The two panes of glass sparkle. And there is no “30 years buildup” of paint threads from trimming those old window panes… hundreds of little panes… These babies are so clean looking!
- We now live in a soundproof room. In fact, outside our bathroom window is our big air conditioner unit. I see it – and know it’s running – but can’t hear it. And only the noisy motorcycle or big truck reminds us that we have a county road 400’ in front of our house.
- PELLA windows are known for high quality. These units glide open . The double latches flip right or left to invite me to slide the lower unit up, or the upper unit down. The dog doesn’t even hear the window open or close! Cleaning time is easy now: just tilt the upper or lower unit inward, wipe that big solid pane of glass clean, and tilt back in place.
- It will be difficult to measure my energy savings. We also replaced our old 10 SEER A/C unit with a new 13 SEER unit. However, without doubt these new windows are incredibly, measurably and dramatically more energy efficient than what we took out.

- When we provide to you your proposal, you are asked to pay for the windows when we order them, (not labor).
- When the windows arrive, we will schedule the installation.
- After removing the old units, we caulk and seal the openings against infiltration.
- Our crew of pros will install your windows. Again, premium caulks are used to seal against infiltration. All old units are hauled off, and disposed of properly.
- Floors have been protected with our blankets.
- After your complete inspection, we ask for your final payment.
